Have Nascar Fans Gone To Far?

I just read a letter from Eric from Pratt, WV. that stopped me dead in my tracks. It was a slap in the face to all those nay sayers and traditionalists, drivers and media that are constantly demeaning our great sport. Have fans become too critical of every detail and are harming this sport that we love?

Eric makes an eye opening statement:
"When was the last time you heard Brett Farve or Peyton Manning trashing their sport or the stadiums they play in?"
Should fans just accept the way Nascar is progessing with the COT and reaching out to a wider segment of the population, or do fans have the right to complain and demand a voice in the direction of the sport?

With the tough times ahead for Nascar teams and tracks maybe a little more understanding, patients and support will help assure there is stock car racing for many years to come.

  1. I believe that if you buy a ticket to a race/game, yoy have the right to complain or boo, or what have you. But i get tired of people saying they are huge NASCAR fans trash talking about every little thing. I may not agree with all of the decisions made in the last 4-5 years, but I am glad we get to enjoy something like NASCAR. It is a very exciting sport and still enjoyable to me

  2. There are "fans" out there that no matter what, just will not be happy. They are going to bitch and gripe cause that is just there personality. It doesn't mean that is how everybody feels. It's just more is made out of negativity than any positive that may also be present. This cat mentioned popular drivers comparing it to the NFL. Me personally, I don't see the resemblance but then again when I think of football, I think of guys running. When I think of Nascar, I think of driver's driving a car.

  3. I don't see what one sport has to do with the other. All football has the basic fields, stadiums, rules, teams for over 100 years. What is Favre going to say "we need the field to be 5 yards longer or wider"? What they do gripe about is the essentially the same things. How the team is being run, coaching, salary, injuries, etc. I have found that everyone in sport complains about something but is it reported as trashing the sport or just voicing discontent. Just because you complain about something doesn't necessarily mean you're trashing NASCAR. NASCAR is more subject to change of direction than football and I think the drivers and media know this. What would be the equivalent of changing to the COT in football? Adding two more per team? Making a touchdown 10 points? I think some criticism of NASCAR is justified and I think that some things do not need to be swept under the rug to gain or keep a few so called fans. Along with the need for understanding, patience and support is also the need for it to work both ways.
